What Is Showdown in DFS?
Last updated October 4, 2026 by Ship It Nation
MLB Showdown draws your lineup from one baseball game. DraftKings' player pool can include hitters and pitchers, so your Captain decision can involve choosing between offensive production and pitching production.
Why It Matters
Batting order and substitution risk affect how many chances your hitters receive. When pitchers are eligible, consider expected innings and strikeouts rather than treating every starter as equally secure. Opposing hitters generally work against your pitcher's ceiling, although a limited combination can still fit a winning lineup.

Example
Say you expect a low-scoring game and choose a starting pitcher at Captain in DraftKings MLB Showdown. You fill the remaining spots with eligible hitters while meeting the contest's team restrictions. You favor hitters with secure starting roles and avoid building heavily around the opposing offense, because a big night from those bats would undermine your pitcher's ceiling.
Compare complete lineups with different players in the multiplier slot. Leaving salary unused can reduce duplication, but do not sacrifice meaningful scoring potential just to make your lineup unusual.

Common Questions
Does the Captain or MVP cost more?
Yes, in DraftKings Captain Mode and FanDuel's current six-slot Single-Game format. Your Captain or MVP costs 1.5 times the player's regular salary and scores 1.5 times their fantasy points. The other five slots use regular salaries and scoring, so compare what each multiplier choice leaves for the rest of your lineup.
Do Showdown lineups need players from both teams?
Yes. DraftKings Showdown and FanDuel Single-Game contests require representation from both teams. That does not mean every possible team split is legal: sport-specific roster restrictions can also apply. Check the contest's lineup requirements before building heavily around one team.
Should the highest-projected player always be my Captain?
No. You need the strongest complete lineup, not simply the highest individual projection in the multiplier slot. A cheaper Captain can free salary for stronger supporting players. In tournaments, also consider realistic ceiling outcomes and duplication, but low ownership alone does not make someone a good Captain.
