What Are Duplicate Lineups in DFS?
Last updated October 12, 2026 by Ship It Nation
Duplicate lineups are entries in the same DFS contest with identical player selections and scoring assignments, including any multiplier positions. In standard cash-prize tournaments, these entries tie and share the combined prizes for the places they occupy.
Why It Matters
Single-game NFL contests draw from just two teams, so popular quarterback combinations and cheap pass catchers can produce many identical entries. Your Captain or MVP assignment matters wherever that position changes scoring. An unusual multiplier choice can still be duplicated if the remaining selections follow an obvious construction.
Example
Say you and another entrant choose the same six players in DraftKings NFL Showdown and put the same receiver at Captain. Reordering the five Flex players does not make your lineup different. Moving another player to Captain changes the scoring assignment and the lineup's salary, so check that it still fits the cap.
Use the actual prize table to calculate your payout in a first-place tie with two, five or ten entries. Compare those outcomes before choosing between similarly strong builds.

Common Questions
What happens when duplicate lineups tie for first in DFS?
In standard cash-prize tournaments, the prizes for the occupied finishing positions are added together and divided equally among the tied entries. Each entry counts separately, even when one person entered multiple copies. Different lineups that finish with the same score also share that tie.
Does leaving salary unused prevent duplicate lineups?
No. Another entrant can select the same players and leave the same salary unused. Salary left over can make some combinations less common, but it does not guarantee uniqueness. Check the full lineup, including multiplier assignments, and avoid giving up substantial scoring upside solely to spend less.
Do duplicate lineups reduce payouts in cash games?
Not when the tied entries occupy places that all pay the same amount. A tie crossing the paid cutoff in a double-up or 50/50 can reduce what each entry receives. Head-to-head contests can use different procedures, including refunds for identical lineups, so check that contest's rules.
