What Is a Slate in DFS?
Last updated October 11, 2026 by Ship It Nation
In NASCAR DFS, a slate usually covers one race rather than several team matchups. You select from the drivers listed in that contest's eligible pool, not every driver racing across the weekend.
Why It Matters
Check the racing series and specific race before researching drivers. Cup, Xfinity and Truck races are separate events, and a driver competing in more than one can have different starting positions, equipment and opponents.

Example
Say a weekend includes a Truck race on Friday and a Cup race on Sunday. One driver enters both, but you are building for the Sunday Cup contest. That driver's Friday performance does not add to your Sunday score, and the Truck race's starting position is not the one to use for your Cup research.
Before building, open the contest details and check the included events, scoring period and lock rules. Do not assume two sites offer identical slates just because both call them the main slate.

Common Questions
What does main slate mean in DFS?
The main slate is the site's primary featured set of games or events for that schedule. It often attracts the biggest contests, but it does not necessarily include every game or have the most games. Check the actual event list rather than relying on the label.
Can the same player be on more than one slate?
Yes. If a player's game is included in multiple slates and the player is listed as eligible, you can select that player in contests on each. For example, an evening game could belong to both a main slate and a smaller late slate, each with different alternatives.
What is the difference between a slate and a contest?
A slate identifies the sporting events being scored; a contest determines whom you compete against and how prizes are awarded. Many contests can use the same slate while having different entry fees, entry limits, field sizes and payout structures.
