Shows / NASCAR/ Sunday, October 4, 2026
From the archive. This breakdown is for the Sunday, October 4 NASCAR slate. Salaries, weather and picks were for that day.
Eric Schneck breaks down the South Point 400 at Las Vegas, with 267 laps and roughly 186.9 dominator points available. Denny Hamlin ($11,000) and Kyle Larson ($11,500) are the top two dominator candidates: Hamlin starts on the pole, while Larson brings exceptional practice speed. For GPPs, pairing either with Ty Gibbs, Christopher Bell, Chase Briscoe or Tyler Reddick offers an alternative to the popular Hamlin-Larson combination.
Noah Gragson offers savings off Josh Berry after both crashed in practice, although both are expected to draw heavy ownership. Berry’s poor speed before switching to a backup car raises concerns. AJ Allmendinger supplies value at $5,700, while Joey Logano offers savings and more place-differential upside than Ryan Blaney. Blaney remains playable but difficult to prioritize at $10,200. Carson Hocevar and Daniel Suarez warrant consideration after strong practice sessions.
| Play | Call | The Take | At |
|---|---|---|---|
| CHALK | Expected to be heavily owned from deep in the field, despite being slow before crashing his primary car and switching to a backup. | 4:57 | |
| VALUE | A cheaper pivot from Berry after the practice crashes, with better practice speed than Berry and the option to roster both. | 5:56 | |
| DOMINATOR | A lower-owned alternative to pair with Hamlin or Larson in GPPs instead of using the popular pairing together. | 7:36 | |

| DOMINATOR | A lower-owned alternative to pair with Hamlin or Larson in GPPs instead of using the popular pairing together. | 7:36 | |
| DOMINATOR | A lower-owned dominator alternative to pair with Hamlin or Larson, with high-line mile-and-a-half tracks suiting his driving style. | 7:36 | |
| DOMINATOR | A top dominator candidate starting sixth after exceptional practice speed and a dominant Kansas performance. | 8:04 | |
| DOMINATOR | One of the top two dominator candidates, with the pole and clean air offsetting Larson’s faster practice speed. | 8:40 | |
| Initially considered worth a chance at $7,900 despite likely losing positions from seventh, but the following line contradicts that endorsement. | 9:11 | ||
| Floated as a secondary dominator because of his Vegas ability, but passing the Toyotas and Larson makes that path difficult. | 9:43 |

Five days nineteen dollars you can't beat it Ship It Nation.com everything you need to have success with DFS for less folks this morning's show will be a little bit quicker than normal because it is NFL Sunday and I'm recording this a little bit later than we normally do uh because I was at the racetrack all day yesterday so
Uh if you haven't been to a racetrack lately you should go they're great to be too uh but like I mentioned earlier this morning we're breaking down the south point hotel and casino four hundred at Las Vegas motor speedway there are two hundred and sixty seven laps on deck for today which equals out to roughly one hundred and eighty six point nine DominatorsDominators are NASCAR drivers who earn a large share of fantasy points from leading laps or recording fastest laps, meaning the quickest time among drivers on a particular lap. Before a race, the term describes candidates for that role.Compare practice averages over several consecutive laps and performance at similar tracks. Then identify how each candidate could reach the lead instead of assuming the pole sitter will control the race.Full explanation ↗ points if this all sounds familiar to last week guess what It is all familiar to last week. Why?
Because Las Vegas and Kansas are kind of like the same. They're mile and a half. They race extremely similar. The folks who were really good last week should also be really good this week. Um, yeah, so it's kind of a carbon copy for what we got last week. Uh, Saturday night, they had a fantastic, fantastic, uh, O'Reilly series race with sprint car driver Corey day coming through at the end.
We can only hope we have a race as good as that was last night today in the cup series. Do I think we're going to get one? No, but we can only hope we can only hope. All right, let's go ahead and pull up the NASCAR Stoned here. And of course, the Stoned version just has the OwnershipOwnership is the percentage of lineups in a contest that include a given player. Projected ownership is an estimate made before lock; actual ownership is posted once the contest locks.Ownership isn't something to avoid; it's something to build around. The goal is understanding how the field is likely to build, then finding your edge relative to that.Full explanation ↗ projection ceiling and points per dollar blanked out. If you want that information, be a member. Shippenation.com.
The big two takeaways from practice yesterday were Josh Berry and Noah Gregson. Josh Berry seems like it's everybody's favorite driver after his hot streak. He had a really terrible practice and then like half hour, thirty five minutes in something like that. He crashed. Team rolled out a backup car. Now he was slow before that in the primary car. Smash that primary car. Team rolled out a backup car. Do I think he's a thirty fifth place car?
No, I don't, especially because he won here in Vegas for his very first NASCAR Cup Series race, I believe, last year. So he's good here, right? He's not a thirty fifth place car, but they were dead last in practice with the primary car. And now they're going to the backup car. He will be very heavily owned today and for good reason. But. I don't know. I don't know. Noah Gregson also cut a tire down, piled into the wall hard, did not make a qualifying lap.
I forget if they rolled out the backup car or not. I think they did. Don't quote me on that. I know they didn't take a qualifying lap. This is Noah's hometown racetrack. So, not that I like to go into narratives like that, but you can't tell me it's your hometown racetrack and you're trying to start dead last and finish dead last, right? So, I think Josh Berry will get a ton of OwnershipOwnership is the percentage of lineups in a contest that include a given player. Projected ownership is an estimate made before lock; actual ownership is posted once the contest locks.Ownership isn't something to avoid; it's something to build around. The goal is understanding how the field is likely to build, then finding your edge relative to that.Full explanation ↗ today and for good reason.
But if you're looking for a little pivot and to save some more money, just go to Noah. Right. Do I think like obviously Josh Berry has more of an upside to Noah, but Josh Berry was super slow. Yeah. In practice with their primary car. Now he has the backup car. And Gregson was not all that terrible, at least compared to Barry in practice. Or play both. I feel like a lot of people will play both. Like I said, Josh Barry, he wrecked hard.
He was slow beforehand. He is a backup car. Noah Gregson cut down a tire. He will be starting in the rear of the field as well. This is Noah's home track, as mentioned before. So a little extra motivation for Noah Gregson. Let's go ahead and break down now the starting lineup. Starting on the pole, and really the first five positions, Joe Gibbs Racing. Hello, Joe Gibbs Racing. Joe Gibbs Racing takes up one, two, three, four. That's right. The first four spots, rows one and two.
Nothing but joe gibbs racing denny hamlin on the pole ty gibbs outside pole c bell third chase briscoe fourth denny is my obvious favorite out of them all he has the clean air however we all know those any of those cars are capable of winning sam goes for fifth place starting tyler reddick we all forget the run he went on at the beginning of the year these mile and a half tracks where you can rip the top are his bread and butter um Watch the move Corey Day did yesterday at the end of the NASCAR O'Reilly Series race.
That's the kind of race car driver Tyler Reddick is. So Gibbs, Bell, Briscoe, and Reddick are not nearly getting the OwnershipOwnership is the percentage of lineups in a contest that include a given player. Projected ownership is an estimate made before lock; actual ownership is posted once the contest locks.Ownership isn't something to avoid; it's something to build around. The goal is understanding how the field is likely to build, then finding your edge relative to that.Full explanation ↗ as Hamlin and the next upcoming Tyler Larson are. But I love the idea in GPP (Guaranteed Prize Pool)A GPP is a tournament whose prize pool is guaranteed to pay out in full even if the contest does not fill. Payouts are steep: a small group at the top wins most of the money. Before you enter a tournament lineup, ask how it finishes first, not just how it cashes. If you cannot name that scenario, rebuild it.Full explanation ↗ of pairing Hamlin or Larson with either Gibbs, Bell, Briscoe, or Redick to get you a little bit different than everybody who's just going to group up Hamlin and Larson together.
But the aforementioned sixth place starting Tyler Larson, he is far and away the king of Las Vegas. He put an absolute stomping on... On them last week at Kansas. It would not surprise me to see him put a stomping on them again today, right? Really wouldn't. I wrote on the website, I consider Hamlin and Larson one A, one B. I'll let you decide who's the one A, who's the one B. Larson was crazy faster in practice, qualified sixth.
Hamlin, super fast in practice, not as fast as Larson, right? Put it on the pole. Hamlin has that much ballyhooed clean air that the next-gen car seems to love. Larson doesn't. Larson has five Toyotas to pass, right? And this is all assuming Larson or Hamlin gets to jump in and takes off and gets the clean air and leads the first however many laps. I think Hamlin and Larson will be by far and away the top two potential DominatorsDominators are NASCAR drivers who earn a large share of fantasy points from leading laps or recording fastest laps, meaning the quickest time among drivers on a particular lap. Uh, what for GPP (Guaranteed Prize Pool)A GPP is a tournament whose prize pool is guaranteed to pay out in full even if the contest does not fill. Payouts are steep: a small group at the top wins most of the money. Before you enter a tournament lineup, ask how it finishes first, not just how it cashes. If you cannot name that scenario, rebuild it.Full explanation ↗ one fifties, I don't mind the idea of pairing Hamlin, uh, with one of Gibbs, Bell, Briscoe or Reddick or Larson with one of Gibbs, Bell, Briscoe or Reddick. Next up, the highest qualifying Ford is Austin Cendric at seventh. He surprised us a bit last week. Um, uh, Yeah, for $7,900, I think I don't have an issue taking a chance with him. Do I think he will lose some spots? Do I think he will finish in seventh?
Yeah, but I don't think he'll fall too far back. So I don't want to take a shot on Austin Sindrick. William Byron is also fantastic at Vegas. Don't sleep on Willie B. He could probably be also considered one of those like secondary DominatorsDominators are NASCAR drivers who earn a large share of fantasy points from leading laps or recording fastest laps, meaning the quickest time among drivers on a particular lap. Before a race, the term describes candidates for that role.Compare practice averages over several consecutive laps and performance at similar tracks. Then identify how each candidate could reach the lead instead of assuming the pole sitter will control the race.Full explanation ↗ picks like in the playoffs. In the Gibbs, Bell, Briscoe, and Reddick portion. The only reason I don't have him listed as such is he has to go through all of those Toyotas and Larson, right? So, like, Larson just killed everybody at Kansas.
So it's like you got to have him ranked because he's also the king of Vegas. But, like, will he be... Has some work to do, but he could do it. It's been a while since we've seen him do it. Bubba Wallace in ninth. Sure. I always take a shot on Bubba, especially at mile and a half. Carson Hosovar last week. I don't think he who did anybody hate him last week? I forget. I forget. Everyone hates him every week. I forget who hates who when.
Look, Spire's been fast all year, especially Josevar in that car. Daniel Suarez in that car. Maybe not so much Michael McDowell, but Josevar and Suarez for sure. Spire Motorsports is bringing back Casey Kane next year in the Truck Series. Let's go, Casey Kane Fridays. So, yeah, both Josevar and Suarez, I think, are worth considerations. They looked fantastic in practice. Their power rankings don't look great, but we've seen these cars have speed on these style of racetracks already this season. Don't be afraid.
They're kind of like baby Hendrick. Ryan Preece. Sure, I'll take a shot on Ryan Preece. Losing his team owner. Brad Keselowski is out of RFK Racing at the end of this year, and it doesn't sound great.
Sounds like rfk wanted keselowski to be done and uh keselowski said no so so it's like uh I think roush fenway are buying out the keselowski portion and who knows what's going to end up with keselowski next year but we're not talking about him right now we're talking about ryan priest he didn't look great obviously thirty second twenty fourth twenty second fourteenth but he is a chase driver so Is he going to win the championship? Of course not. But he still is in the playoffs.
He's still fighting. Right. So I think he's worth being in the player pool. Chase Elliott. Sure. $8,500. We have to. Like the equipment per dollar, equipment per dollar. So, yeah, for Chase Elliott. Chris Buescher. Yep. Love me some Chris Buescher. Yeah. Wherever Brad goes, I hope he takes Chris Buescher with him because I feel like RFK is holding down Chris Buescher. And that goes for Brian Priest, too.
I feel like you're going to see both of those drivers take a step back with no Keselowski in the fold next year. I said that at nine oh six on October fourth. We'll see how right I am in a year from now. The lame duck, Alex Bowman. He has good track ranking here, but I'm still sus on him. So. Keep him in your player pool, but I'm not going to go over to Moon to make sure I get any of him.
Brad Kay, cheap. He has a lot on his mind, so I don't know how much I love playing him today, but maybe he's extra motivated to have a good day to show any potential teams, hey, I'm worth a shot. I personally think he is pairing up with Colleague and going the Dodge route. However, a colleague came out and said, we know nothing about that. I have literally never had any conversations with Brad Kozlowski. So I don't know.
We'll see what happens with Brad K at the end of next year. Ross Chastain. Look, track house scares me. They scare me, scare me. They scare me. Decent last week. Is he going to bring that speed again this week?
I kind of need more than one race right now it's helpful that this race is so much similar to last week's race right so if you want to take a shot on melon man feel free he's starting so he does have some Place DifferentialPlace differential is a driver’s scored starting position minus their finishing position. You gain fantasy points when the driver finishes ahead of that starting spot and lose points when they finish behind it.Check why a driver starts deep. An unusually poor qualifying result can create an opportunity, while weak race pace or an unresolved mechanical problem can undermine it.Full explanation ↗ I just track house just scares me uh michael mcdowell he's a no for me dog uh I can't see how he's going to be in that car next year for spire I'm not sure what his contract situation is but I think uh I think if they can get out of it, I think they will.
The Dinger in nineteenth. You got to save some money somewhere. He's $5,700. I'll take a shot. Ryan Blaney in twentieth. Middle of the road in practice. One of the fastest cars all season long. I don't think he's going to dominate, but he definitely has top ten, top five upside. It just sucks that he's $10,200, right? It sucks that Denny's eleven, Tyler's $11,500, and they're probably going to soak up the majority of the laps led, fast lap points, I would assume.
Then you have Blaney at $10,200 in twentieth place. Kind of middle of the road. So is he worth being in your player pool? Absolutely. Is he worth making sure you get some exposure to? Absolutely. But I can't see myself going crazy for him today. Um, that Jones boy. Yeah. I always take a shot on Eric Jones and these style of racetracks. Love me that Jones boy. Um, Yeah, I feel like they have some good juju going for next year.
I'll be very interested to see where Legacy Motor Club ends up at the end of next year. I feel like I said that last year, too, and they're still, like, exactly the same. So we'll see. Riley Herbst, he, like, crushed it. I feel like this is the race he crushed it in the Xfinity Series one year where he was just, like, out on this crazy lead. And...
Yeah that's not gonna happen today in cup um I don't have him as a GPP (Guaranteed Prize Pool)A GPP is a tournament whose prize pool is guaranteed to pay out in full even if the contest does not fill. Payouts are steep: a small group at the top wins most of the money. Before you enter a tournament lineup, ask how it finishes first, not just how it cashes. If you cannot name that scenario, rebuild it.Full explanation ↗ play um I kind of have him just as a complete fade uh the positive for riley herbst is that he is budget friendly at $6,000 I wish he was starting a little bit deeper in the field but he does have a toyota under the hood and his twenty three xi teammates are starting fifth and ninth so I think he's worth a fade, but I do understand if you do want to get some exposure to Mr. Herbst today.
Joey Logano is great here as well. He's starting in the third, a $9,500. Middle of the road practice, cheaper than Blaney. In my opinion, if you are dead set and going Blaney, but you're struggling on cash, drop down to Joey and save, what, a couple hundred bucks. Maybe that'll work and it gives you some more Place DifferentialPlace differential is a driver’s scored starting position minus their finishing position. You gain fantasy points when the driver finishes ahead of that starting spot and lose points when they finish behind it.Check why a driver starts deep. An unusually poor qualifying result can create an opportunity, while weak race pace or an unresolved mechanical problem can undermine it.Full explanation ↗. Cole Custer, SVG, and Ricky Stinkhouse. No, no, no. Todd Gilliland and Austin Dillon. I'll take a shot.
Todd Gilliland looked god-awful at practice, but it's Gilley, so kind of hoping for the best there. Austin Dillon. Yeah, middle-of-the-road practice, start at twenty-eighth, so kind of hoping he just gets in the top fifteen. Ty Dillon, no. Zane Smith, yeah, I'll take a shot. He's hard to figure out. Connor Zilich, I'm going to say no. He looked okay in practice. Like I mentioned earlier with Chastain, track house scares me. They've been trash all season long. All season long.
And Like, I'm sick of, like, oh, he has the potential. So, like, he's starting in the back. And, like, I just, good practice. The kid's a hell of a driver. It's just track house in general. Or maybe it's that team in general. I don't know. But it's a fade for me. I understand if you want to play the Z-Man. I kind of like that, the Z-Man. But it's going to be a no for me. John Hunter Nemechek. Yeah. Toyota. Okay. Austin Hill.
Okay. If you, you know, these are like, we're, we're trying to save money. Like, you know, these are, these are like last click type drivers, right? Uh, Cody, where? No. And then we have Josh Berry and Noah Gregson who both, uh, both crashed during practice and will both be heavily owned today. Uh, Josh Berry is on a crazy, fantastic, um, string of races. Uh, and then we have, uh, solid, solid finishes. And this is Noah Gregson's home track.
So, you know, he's not going to want to lay an egg in qualifying and in the race. Right. So hopefully a top twenty for Noah. And hey, that's it for me, folks. It is NFL Sunday. I quite literally think it's nine o'clock. I think there's a game in Europe right now. I'm not going to share my screen. Let me double check that. Am I right on that? Yes. In Washington at nine thirty. I have zero interest in that, but I know some people do.
So I'm going to go ahead and wrap up this morning's show. Thank you so much. As always, the NASCAR season is. We're wrapping up here, folks. We only have like five races left or something like that. Here, let me look at my phone. Let me look at my telephone. We have this week in Vegas, Charlotte, Phoenix, Daga, Martinsville, and Homestead. One, two, three, four, five, six races, which includes today.
Six more times this year we're going to get together and talk about left-hand turns. I appreciate you all. Good luck in all of your slates today. If any further drivers are announced as going to the rear, I will, as always, mention it in the Discord. Any questions, please feel free to tag me on Discord. And as always, let's ship it!
