What Is Injury News in DFS?

Injury news is information about a player's health that can change whether they compete, how much they play or how effectively they perform. In DFS, it also affects opportunities for teammates and opponents.

Why It Matters

Salaries can stay fixed while an injury update changes a player's expected role, creating value you could not identify earlier. Follow where the missing opportunities actually go, rather than automatically choosing the backup. News can also change ownership, but a late announcement does not guarantee that a replacement will be overlooked.

Example

Say a starting point guard is ruled out before an evening game, and a cheap reserve is confirmed as his replacement. You raise the reserve's expected minutes, but the starting shooting guard is expected to handle more of the offense. You compare both players with your existing options and, if your contest permits changes and the relevant players remain unlocked, adjust your lineup within its salary and position requirements.

Pro tip

Before an uncertain player's game locks, identify an alternative you can afford at each affected position. Check whether making that change would require another player whose game starts earlier.

Common Questions

Does a questionable tag mean a player will miss the game?

No. A questionable tag signals uncertainty, not a confirmed absence. Look for an updated status and information about the expected workload. Being cleared to play also does not guarantee a normal role, so a minutes limit or reduced workload can still change your decision.

How do you find DFS value after an injury update?

Identify who gains playing time and who gains offensive opportunities, then compare those roles with their salaries. Those gains may go to different teammates. Previous games with similar absences can help, but account for changes in the rotation, available players and matchup.

Can you change a DFS lineup after injury news breaks?

You can make changes only while the affected roster spots remain editable under your contest's rules. Contests with late swap may allow changes after the slate begins, but locked players cannot be replaced. Check the contest's lock rules and keep your revised lineup within its salary and position requirements.
